My last blog talked about the essentials for a safe and fun hiking experience. So, here we go!

Let's "bridge the gap" to ...

Essentials: Part 2

Here are some OTHER things to think about as you are forming your "essentials" list:

1. Planning your adventure is essential.
  a. What do you want to see? Historic sites, wildflowers, animals, waterfalls, rivers ...
  b. How many miles are you comfortable traveling between campsites or shelters each day?
  c. Are you going solo, or can you share gear with companions, thus reducing the weight of your pack?

2. ⚠️ Very important! Know your skill level!!! Are you capable or have the skills and endurance to accept this challenge? Be truthful.

3. Have you done your research?
  a. Weather forecasts
  b. Water sources
  c. Trail conditions
  d. Bear activity, hornet/yellow jacket behavior, restrictions ...
  e. Do you have proper gear for the skill level or this adventure ... appropriate footwear,  the best backpack for comfort and durable design, and TREKKING POLES.

4. Make smart, WISE decisions.

5. Keep It Simple!! Your best plans are your most straightforward plans!

6. And, as always ... my acronym P.A.R.T.
P: Persevere - never quit when you want to stop. Tomorrow is another day. Keep moving—one step at a time.
A: Attitude - A positive attitude is crucial in your "gear bag." Believe you CAN! Laugh at yourself often. Humor is an attitude.
R: Resilience - Know that you CAN return from a traumatic condition or experience.
T: Triumph - You are a winner! You always have been.

Now, let's hit the trail ... "boots on the ground."
